My parents come from China, dad is from 蔚縣 (Yu county)，the one on southern tip boarder of the extinct province of 察哈爾 (Chahar province)，nowadays merged into 河北 (Hebei)。My mother is from 高雄縣 (Kaohsiung) in Taiwan, but her ancestral family roots are in Fuqian province. I have visited Taiwan several times and very much enjoy it for the food, sights, and natural beauty. I haven’t visited China but very much plan to go see it one day.
My own upbringing was in Brazil, my parents immigrated there when I was 1.6 years old, lived in São Paulo for the whole 21 years I was there. Brazil is a country of continental size, much like US or China. I missed Brazil very much and finally visited again last year after 30 years, much changed but much remains the same. It is a country of contrasts, and nowhere is it more visible than in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
